View Full Version : POD XT vs. POD XT PRO?

There was a thread on the old BAM about the various PODs but I never saw this particular combination addressed:

Is there any reason to upgrade to a POD XT PRO from a POD XT?

I have the POD XT and am getting a little tired of it. Also, I routinely send one output to the computer and the other to the amp, cheating by using each half of the stereo output, I guess. I like the fact that the PRO has a separate output for each but if that's the only difference, it might not be enough.

Your thoughts will be welcome and appreciated.

Pro is rackmount and has;

24-bit/96k digital ins and outs (AES/EBU & S/PDIF)
TRS Line Input and Unprocessed Guitar Output
Stereo XLR Live/Studio Direct Ins/Outs (+4dBu/-10dBv)
Stereo Programmable Effects Loop (Series or Parallel)

Really, that about it, same models, effects and cabs.

John, I have no pressing need for the pro, but I upgraded the firmware to my xt last week and holy crap!! It's very different and MUCH better. Before deciding that your xt is too stale for you, be sure you've done the upgrade. I had to reprogram it for my needs (different patches for direct and live), but the new sounds are really good. For instance, with the original firmware, I couldn't find a lead tone I liked other than adding the classic dist stomp to a clean patch, or using an ext lead pedal. Now, I've found some killer tones with the soldano model. Also some great new cleans using the JTS 45 and Bassman models. Etc.......

Jon,

You inspired me to upgrade my firmware...sadly I have version 1.01 which can't be upgraded via USB, only MIDI. I, of course, don't have MIDI so I'm off to find a USB to MIDI converter. On the up side, that's a cheap way to get some solid sound improvements but it's a tad frustrating.

You only need a midi cable initially, once you update to >1.03, you can use midi over the usb connection.

Also once you've got 1.05 flashed, you can use the new Line6 Edit program - another free download. It's a much better editor and it gives you access to tones online.

Thanks, Jon, I'll try it.

(Although I think I may have upgraded already...looking for the f'ing manual to see how to look up the firmware revision number...getting dizzy...getting dark...where's Lois?)

That worked! I've got 1.04.

Thanks, PSX...

I could have:

1) searched all over, found my glasses, found the manual, found the right page, read it. We'll call this the "MANUAL" method.

2) waited for PSXguru to answer. We'll call this the "AUTOMATIC" method.

The automatic method is highly recommended.
