Oh, that version of Little Wing is incredible. I think you had posted a version of him playing that a while ago, but it was with a full band, and it was also awesome. But, I really like that solo version.

Actually Carl turned me on to Michael Landau's stuff about 10 years ago via the internet.. REc.music.makers.guitar and his posts about the Raging Honkeys. I went out and bought all of those cd's.. Thanks for posting these tunes Carl . Very cool. I'm 1 of these guys in his mid 40's who always seems to like current rock music ,but Hendrix is the way I was raised on guitar and I love having flashbacks like listening to the Landau stuff where he's so obviously influenced by Hendrix. . Carl , I don't know if you've heard of Buckethead but I just saw him in concert a month ago and he absolutely KILLED... My friends liked him a lot more than EJ and Satch etc... I also had read you finally got into Steve Vai this past year or 2 ... Vai 's the perfect guitarist to me! ROck on

Hey Eric. No Buckethead material. I'll have to check him out.
Yup, a lightbulb went off with Vai. Got a Legacy and two JEMS too!

I've seen ML the last two weeks at a club in Hollywood. He's been playing with Robben Ford and sounding great. It's such a gas getting to watch guys at this level up so close and personal. Tremendous players, great tones, incredibly intensity and some very creative stuff. Really a blast. Wish the club could see fit to give them a weekend night...

I've seen ML & Ford for the last three Mondays in a row at Safari Sam's (www.safari-sams.com) and the past Monday's show was easily the highlight for me. The sound was dialed in right from the first song, the playing was intense, the vibe was incredible, and it was very cool.
I'm taking a break until May 22, when Kirk Fletcher & ML play together on that Monday. That should be another great night out...

Awesome, that's a fact. Been into ML forever... It's such a humbling experience to see guys like that live in an "informal" setting. Sometimes it makes me want to collect guitars... much easier than playing them!

My two carpool companions for the L.A. shows already posted.:D Mike corked off a couple of really deep solos, particularly this last Monday. Particularly stunning from my seat was his solo in the outro to "Help the Poor". Robben had cued the band down to a really quiet volume, looks over at Mike and says "you want to go?" Mike shrugs and says "sure" really low key, you could hear them talking over the band. So then Mike builds up this intense modal conjure, really sparse at first and really outside, sort of mideastern voicings. For me it was a little bit similar to a Grateful Dead space jam thing, but IMHO way more realized and sophisticated. But the solo, as it built and transformed, transported me into a visual and imaginary space. Basically as far as I'm concerned that is mission accomplished in a big way.
Mike is also really great at coming up with counterpoint ostinato rhythm figures, behind other soloists, puncutated with killer chord washes.
The music the last two weeks with these guys has been so good, I haven't even had the slightest urge to walk up to the stage and look at the pedals. It isn't the pedals. The tones are good, but the music is even better.
I've happily used the Carvin Legacy as supplied as mandatory backline at B.B. Kings gigs here in L.A. To me it's a pretty good rocking amp. Reminds me of a JCM 800 with the mid hump a little lower, nice pressure to feedback. The sound guy won't allow me to run it up where it starts getting really good. I think that most players who enjoy Marshall amps, can easily get comfortable with a Carvin half stack.

Mark, you and Leon can go next week. I'm holding out for Kirk Fletcher and ML on the 22nd...can I assume that you and Leon are up for that one? ;)

That is some great stuff. Thanks for posting it. I love the fiery, spontaneous, dangerous way he plays.

I've also been to Safari Sam's for the last 3 weeks and it is simply amazing. It's a rare opportunity to see great musicians jamming and having fun just playing music in a non pressure atmosphere. I agree that this last Monday's show was the best so far, but all have been great.
I spoke to Sam (the club owner) and he said, it was Robben's idea to do the weekly jams for 3 months, and to only charge $10, to make it accessible to musician's, who make up the majority of the crowd.
Robben's not using any pedals, just the tc 2290 for delay and straight into the Dumble ODS. Michael has a few pedals, and I saw a black one that may be the COT 50.

hEY THERE, though I haven't seen Landau (He almost NEVER comes to New England) , I've seen Scott Henderson, Robben Ford (I like Henderson WAY MORE, but still like Robben) , Steve Morse etc numerous times at small local clubs I've played at. They don't draw people though . They draw musicians and that's it pretty much here. I've seen Henderson a few times now in front of 30-40 people . IT's AWFUL!!!! BUT , as you say , it's absolutely THE BEST for us, as we get treated to great shows and are part of it instead of hundreds of rows back in a stadium. ERIC

Any possible chance that some part of these shows might end up someplace like youtube? I'd love to see one of these jam nights, but not being near LA, catching a video will be the closest I get.
I'm going to have to get out there before they stop this run of gigs.
How long is it going on?

It's supposed to be 3 months, and we're coming up on week 4, but Robben won't be there next Monday, just Landau and someone else. Then Robben returns after that.
