I miss the amps section of the gear page, so here are some topics for you to discuss to get the ball rolling:
1) The AC30CC is the best/worst amp of all time
2) Tone Tubby alnicos are a much better/worse speaker than the celestion alnico blue
3) Matchless amps have low end that is 'a signature sound'/flabby
4) Bad Cats sound way worse/better than Matchless
5) Two Rocks have way too many/few models out each year are are so worth/'not worth' the money
6) Komets are as good/bad as any Trainwreck amp
7) John Mayer has awesome/crapulent tone
8) Tone is determined/'not determined' soley by your fingers
9) Class A amps sound great/trebly
10) Most boutique amps sound worse/the same/better than their production counterparts
11) Brunos make the best/worst amps ever
12) The v30 is the best/suckiest modern rock speaker
13) The Beatles saved/killed rock and roll and George Harrison player really well/crappy
14) Chime and grind describe the vox tone accurately/inaccurately
15) The Hayseed 30 is the best/worst boutique amp ever and sounds way better/worse than the model it is based on
16) Top Hats have the neatest/'most overrated' wiring and the best/worst tone
17) Pure point to point is better/worse than board construction hand wiring
18) I can/can't hear the difference between hand wound and machine wound trannies
19) 3000 dollars is too much/little to spend on one amp
20) Divided by 13 are built as well/worse than most other boutique amps and have superior/inferior tone
21) Better parts equals/'does not equal' better tone
Discuss...I feel better already :D

Wow. 21 points of amp discussion, and you didn't use the word "Plexi" one time. I'm impressed! :D

p.s. How did #13 sneak in there?

Oops I forgot to get plexi and a fender product reference in...I was just going with the most contentious TGP topics!! The Beatles being the one topic that everyone argues about on any gear related forum.

To help you out, I'll comment wherever possible. :D
3) Matchless amps have low end that is 'a signature sound'/flabby - I'd say signature, based on my experience with my JJ30. Never had an issue with the low end, but the highs can be a bit much depending on guitar/pedals used and my mood. This covers #9 on your list as well.
5) Two Rocks have way too many/few models out each year are are so worth/'not worth' the money - I own a TR that is not one of the "coveted" models and absolutely love it. It's used at more gigs than any of my other amps. Killer tone that gets comments from other players, audience members, sound guys, and even a drummer or two. Worth every penny spent on it (see 19).
7) John Mayer has awesome/crapulent tone - Can't say I'm a huge fan or anything, but the guy has decent tone.
8) Tone is determined/'not determined' soley by your fingers - Many factors, including fingers.
9) Class A amps sound great/trebly - Yes
10) Most boutique amps sound worse/the same/better than their production counterparts - Based on my experience they sound as good or better. I'd much rather have my Bruno CT22 than any DR I've ever heard.
11) Brunos make the best/worst amps ever - Very subjective statement, but anyone who does not acknowledge Bruno makes great amps is a complete idiot in my eyes (also a subjective thing, but such is life).
12) The v30 is the best/suckiest modern rock speaker - They don't really work for me. I've owned a few and much prefer the G12H30.
16) Top Hats have the neatest/'most overrated' wiring and the best/worst tone - Never opened up my Club Royale, but I love the tone(s) it produces. Very versitile little amp. Used mostly as a practice amp these days, but kicks serious ass at gigs where I really get to open it up. Best? Not to my ears, but does the job when I'm looking for something a bit different.
17) Pure point to point is better/worse than board construction hand wiring - I used to believe this. Then I played a Fuchs. My old Mesa DC-5 is 90% of my more expensive point to point amps. Still use it on gigs occasionally. Last weekend I had it plugged into a Two-Rock cab at a gig and another player told me how great my TR amp sounded. He couldn't believe the sound he was hearing was coming from a Mesa. :)
20) Divided by 13 are built as well/worse than most other boutique amps and have superior/inferior tone - I will find out soon!
Hope you feel better now. I certainly do! :D

by pure PTP, do U mean REAL point to point. i see many peeps calling amps that use turrets PTP and (pedantic as i am) it always kind of irks me. turret/board amps may be handwired, but they are NOT point to point.
i agree w/ U about a well engineered PCB being as good as a turret/board amp, with the proviso that non-PCB may be easier to do repairs on down the line. some of my fave amps are PCB.
i'm not sure i've ever had any experience w/ a real PTP guitar amp. maybe my traynor when i was a kid. i have a single ended OTL hi-fi amp that is PTP and it is magical. i've heard newer versions of the same amp that are PCB and i have to say, they sound good. just not magical.

wienerpeg (winterpeg?) is a cool city. a very active musical community that is extremely diverse. U're right about the gear pimps, tho'. i'd be lost w/o the cool guys at capsule, songbird, paul's boutique, the fret and SBT. i've even been making forays out into the 'country' to check out tundra, la music and the guitar shop.
make sure U get to honest ed's before U split so U can stock up on some stanfield's long underwear. U're gonna need it.
2)there is NO difference in the tonal qualities of a polyurethane finish and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
OK, maybe i should start another thread.

I'm pretty sure that for the numbers to be right you're going to need at least 5 more Two Rock topics. Other than that I'd say you're good to go.

i know, but U guys here seem to have far more cogent discussions about such things. methinks what the poster may have been referring to was missing the name calling, casting aspersions, derisive comments, considering aesthetics an absolute and eventually locking down of virtually every thread because of that.
personally, the more time i spend here, the more i like the more reasoned, genteel atmosphere that seems to prevail, altho' the traffic seems lighter.

Hey, we're just as good as anyone at that sh!t. Plus, we have an uncanny talent for derailing thread. Seriously.
Reminds me of that Keebler LP I saw for sale the other day. How someone can forge the Gibson logo on the headstock is beyond me!

actually, i think they do it with traditional luthier tools and use the same sort of materials.

what with all of the canadian comedy writers in hollywood lampooning american culture and making a GOOD living at it, i'd say that it's more than a bit of BOTH...

I may have to come for a visit - plus you guys are bound to have better guitar stores than Winnipeg (the food might be roughly equivalent though):)

I'm not sure how the mods would tolerate it here, but BaM does seem more even-keel and remains the kindler/gentler place to hang. each has their pluses and minuses I guess :)

Holy Moly. Remind me not to take a college course from you. The homework itself would drive me to another form of alcohol bingeing. My head hurts just reading those discussion points and even beginning to think about them.
Please, next time, one or two points. I sincerely believe a lot of us will be turned off by the sheer magnitude of potential responses you're wanting to elicit. And yet, there will be some of us who can't resist a challenge....

don't know how long you were on TGP, but it wasn't always like that.
i was there about half a year and things weren't as bad at first as they were over that last month before they went offline. i must say i was rather disheartened to see it decline in such a way. within a different context and for different reasons, i saw OSXa start a really great place and then start and devolve until the point that it was fairly worthless place to go for information or to have a cogent discussion.
i have NO desire for everyone to agree with everything i say, but when it came to the lack of respect and personal attacks, it made it increasingly difficult to have any sort of meaningful exchange.
hopefully, when TGP goes back on-line, cooler heads will prevail and the concept of objective debate will be established.

Er, no, the music stores are worse here. And the food is MUCH worse... W'peg has some decent restaurants. Remeber, it used to be Canada's version of Chicago (3rd biggest city in Canada) back when Fargo had about 15,000 people.

I miss amp discussion too. I just latched on to an Ampeg VL1002 and used it in the studio last week and will again this weekend. What a killer! I remember when they first appeared and I paid no attention. I was likely in to logos more than actual performance and tone then. Either way, it sounds great now.

Id like to make my first sweeping generalization. I think all celestion speakers suck! im not a fan, Especially the V-30s whoah do they suck the big one! The G12 century, that i bought because i gave into the hype, is the most treble ridden piece of **** ive ever heard! Not to say i wouldent give the company another shot, but i like eminece much more. I like the jensen alnico 10's, I like Ev 300 watters, And i like tone tubbies although they could afford a little more treble. I would take a pre rola celestion, but dont see the mojo in it? Everyone says marshall cabs with celestions are the ****, but id take a Two-Rock 2x12 Sig cab over a 4x12 any day. Thank you ive said my peace, ive started some sparks, have a great day everyone!

Give me good ol' American-made Eminence Legend speakers. the 122 and 102 are DA BOMB! If you can find any MojoTone MP10R (long out of production and *I* have TWO in my garage as spares) you got some real speakers.
