OK so I dropped $150 on George L's cables to wired the pedalboard. Now, sure everything works and sound good while Im playing but gee whiz now I have a major hum problem. I have checked the cables over and over again for continuity and such and even rewired the board in case I just didnt do the connections right. Still got that nasty hum.

Im also using a One Spot to power everything but it never caused me a problem while I was using the cheap right angle cables.

Im also wondering if the George L's may be highlighting the fact that I need to buy some new preamp tubes as the ones in the amp are probably 6-7 years old LOL.

Im also wondering if I dont need to buy one of those Ebtech hum cancelling thingys...

Anyone else experience this? Suggestions?

Let me know if I havent given enough info...

If those George L connectors are bumping up against the chassis of any of your pedals you most certainly will get pops, buzz, etc......I never had any luck with them, mostly because I'm always swapping pedals in and out, I get the distinct impression that once you wire up with George L's you should refrain from messing with them.

I got to the point where I just bought a big wheel of Mogami and bunch of connectors and I solder my own with proper strain relief. No headaches since.

I've used GL's for many many years with no problems.
The one problem I ever had was getting a hum from one on my pedal board because it was grounding against the chassis of my wah pedal.

Well I got a hum from my one spot. Pedal Power fixed that.

This may not make a huge difference, but I always try to run ALL of my George L's in the same direction- look at the writing on the cables when you cut/make your cables and try to run them in that direction- sounds like your problem is a grounding issue, but this can't hurt!

I'm thinking I may go the way Gainiac has gone -- I really like GL, except that I have a high incidence of connectors crapping out. For whatever reason, it's much more common with the thinner cable; my longer instrument -> amp or instrument -> pedals/pedals -> amp leads have been fine. But the pedal -> pedal connectors have a high likelihood of flaking out.

Yeah, Im not very happy. I think Im gonna get one of thos Ebtech ground loop killer thingys and try it. I also think I may buy some cable and connectors and solder up my own next time.

Did you check them with a meter individually as you made them?

If not I would now..

I hate the way they curl up!

Most modern cable are like this but GL's seem to be the worst at tieing themselves into knots. The Bill Lawrence originals from the 80's were better, I think.

Best, Pete.
