View Full Version : Is my VOX AC30 CC working properly?

downloaded the manual and had it nearby as a reference. Plugged into the 'normal' channel and the bass/treble knobs do absolutely nothing. I'm certain the toggle switch is in the right place.

The EQ section has a toggle as well. The bass/treble knobs have no effect wide open or completely closed with the toggle switch in either position. The only knob that affects tone is the 'cut' knob all the way down by the master.

Is the amp supposed to behave this way, or is there something wrong with my particular copy of the AC30 CC? To the best of my ability to read, the treble/bass controls ARE supposed to work on the normal channel the same way they work on the top-boost channel. The tone controls work as advertised on the top-boost channel, so I know they DO work.

Any help/experience anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.

That is correct, and why they are located in the "boost" section of the amp. You will see they (bass and treble controls) are surrounded by a thick line to indicate it. :)

Congrats on the best sounding AC 30 these ears have heard. Enjoy that chime!!

VERY GOOD, VERY GOOD!

Tag you are not helping my GAS. I was right in the middle of the Hayseed vs Vox threads when TGP crashed!!!

I went to the Local CC this weeknd and played the stock AC30CC - not with the upgraded speakers. Man it sounded awsome. If they had a head in stock it might have come home with me.

Bill,

not to add insult to injury or to claim responsibility for draining your wallet, but the AC30 CC with even the budget speakers sounds about 80% (at least!) as good as my matchless clubman rig. This particular copy has the really nice 3-D overtones and it's punishingly loud for a 30w amp.

Band is playing this saturday and it'll see its first live action this weekend. I plan on posting another GAS-inducing review for you then!

Thanks Troy! Glad you showed up, being the VOX expert you are! Typical of me to read the manual, twist knobs and still not know what the heck is going on, huh?!

Sorry I missed you guys in Oxford last weekend. Plans kept changing so I didn't know what was up. Maybe we can entice a whole bunch of regular to the jam in the fall. That would be great.

See you around Troy.

thanks for the heads up. I'm having a hard time reading everything UPSIDE DOWN on the control panel of the amp!!! Why do amp builders do that? Ya don't stand BEHIND the amp, you stand IN FRONT OF IT!!!

And yes, even with the budget speakers, this amp is more than I expected. Great overtones ... nice 3D effects with nothing except the amp. Only nit on this amp is the speakers have a pretty brittle top end that just can't be EQ'd out. But then again, I didn't pay the $600 upcharge for blue ones either!

Glad you like it! I bought the 1/12 with the cheap speaker, because I have a 2/12 Celestion Blue loaded cab already. I like it more with the 1/12! I hear no brittle top end on mine. I also like mine more than my old 1993 Matchless DC 30! More chime. VERY GOOD!

Um... actually, in the olden days, people did stand behind their amps, which is why the controls are "upside-down."

((By the way, did all you other TGP transplants have to re-register here?))
