I have just bought the 002 control surface and I am over the moon with it. Just about to add an 8way mic pre amp so that I will have 12 mic inputs on it.
I replaced my analogue gear and it is a fantastic bit of kit and works really well.
I have a laptop a 20gb external drive and a DVD burner and also use it with my Lexicon reverb and great british spring.
Paid $1800 for the Digi and it is as good as the AMS Neve Logic 3 consoles that I use at work and the Pro Tools is easy to learn. I also got a virtual training video disk off US e-bay for $19.

I recorded everything on my album outside of the drums on a 002. Everything.
Listen at:
www.onemilewish.com (http://www.onemilewish.com)
It was a pleasant experience beyond one point - it was an early 002 unit and had that power distribution cable problem that had to be replaced, but the customer service was great, we called on monday, and had the cable on tuesday with easy instructions for replacing it.
Let us know what you decide!
Dan.

Dan, I'm guessing you tracked the drums at a proper studio, then transferred that to your project studio? Did you mix at home as well?
I'm actually thinking of doing this for my band.
Issues? Suggestions?
ps - I have a 450mghz PC with 512kb memory. Is this enough to run Pro Tools?

No you need a Pentium 4 running at 2gig or an AMD Athlon at 2 gig.
They recommend a minimunm of 375 meg of ram so you will be Ok there. You also need a firewire connector and a firewire drive to record to.

Hey John...sorry, I just saw this post!
Anyways - yep, tracked the drums at a nice studio straight onto my firewire drive, and just took the firewire drive to all of the other places we recorded (at least 5 separate places...blech). After tracking, we took it back into the studio and mixed there on an SSL 4036G+, the same console we tracked the drums on.
I didn't really have any issues, but did have to make a concession that made me a little leery - we tracked everything at 24-bit 48k instead of 24-bit 96k, because we would be doing most of the tracking (everything outside of the studio) on a powerbook. That was the only "issue."
:)
