There are plenty of musicians making money with clear, unique 'artistic vision', and plenty of mimics who are broke... Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

well, if making money is what your going after...then that would depend if your vision is what the mainstream is looking for.
I'm reading this as being stubborn and not 'selling-out'. SO if what you got is what they want, then no. If what you want is not what sells...then you won't make money.
BUT being productive for alot of people isn't about making money. Having integrity for your musical vision is alot more important to alot of people.\
just my thoughts

I crack up when I hear the term "selling out" in regards to musicians.
Like starving, stinking & poor is cool or something...
It depends on what you're trying to "produce."

If you're really looking to make a lot of money, I wouldn't suggest music as a way to do it. I would suggest getting into high-end investing. It seems to me the wealthiest folks in this culture know how to have their money make money for them.
Me, I lack that gene in a big way. I also lack the "Artist" with a capital "A" gene so I can't really entertain serious dialog about my "vision" for a long time without feeling like a poser. I come from blue collar stock and will probably always think that way, you know, just send me out in the morning with my shovel & my lunchbox & tell me where you want the hole...

Yeah, i hate the term too (though i used it in my previous post).
It all depends though. If the band's goal is to make money....then do what it takes to make money. If the goal is something else, go do that.
Either way, what the band does and their choices do not give anyone any reason to bad-mouth them or whatever. Plus people's 'artist vision' and taste change can change over time....
