I've a very early 1986 PRS in powder-blue. That guitar RULES - crazy singing sustain. I love Suhr guitars, but in the realm of what PRSs do best... Nah. The Suhr is a taped-fist offensive lineman among nimble quarterbacks... (and this comes from a Strat-player). Kinda like Michael Jordan in a baseball uniform...

I have played some pretty rocking Suhrs, but compared to my ME or SC, please... That being said, I love the amps (and pre), plus John is a hell of a guy. MY PRSi are perfect for me, but I wouldn't kick a Suhr out of bed for eating crakers. ;)

Suhr ?? WTF ??
I played another one last week, this is around five I have played now and I still don't get it ? Well made, good quality but very bland, you owe it to yourself to try a Tyler mate :dude:

Good lord! Is this the Bland leading the Bland? :p
Sorry BGG, your's is the most quotable.
There was a thread/poll on TGP where it said: Who makes the best Custom Strat type guitar?
It led from Fender Custom Shop thru Suhr and others down to the one man luthiers like Michael Stevens and Bill Chapin.
Really unfair in that the Fender Custom Shop as an entity make more per day than Stevens and Chapin make in a year.
I mean who here has seen a Chapin let alone played one?
Well I did and own one and they are the best........
Just joking about best and being really sneaky. The Chapin is my favourite because he took on board what I wanted; added his spice (wound his own Pick ups for the sound I wanted) and made ME happy. That's the important part.
Best, Pete.

An Archtop Baritone.....sounds like a HB for large players....perhaps that's why they're talking about Michael Jordan:D
This is an interesting thread indeed!

I have actually owned more than a few and have to agree that the tyler is a killer. I think that Jim makes the best strat copy money can by but with the new SSC system it is tough not to go Suhr. I just sold my Tyler Landau Classic and miss it a bit but yesterday I picked up the Suhr Landau and it really has made me forget about the tyler.
Thanks for taking the bait guys...just a bit of fun really. I have been the proud owner of many PRS. currently I am going through a mock vintage stage and purchasing relics and re-issues.
One of the best playing and sounding guitars I have ever owned is a 2000 relic strat that I have had Michael Tuttle (www.bestfrets.com (http://www.bestfrets.com)) refret with 6105 wire and re radius (7.25- 9.5)
Michael used to work with Don Grosh doing fret work on Don's guitars. If anyone ever needs fret work done I would pick Mike even over Suhr, tyler or anderson.
WOW baritone archtop! why not just buy a piano? ;)
I can be a bit sarcastic and should always be taken with a grain of salt but in all honesty thanks to BAM for giving me a pot to stir.

Suhr is a damn good semi production guitar.
But you want the best S style guitar on the planet, you turn Bill Chapin loose. Period.

Buzz FeitenSure they count! I don't need the BF system. (besides, how do you know what vintage my TA is anyway? haw!) My Peterson VS-II does well enough; and 30 years of great R&R pre BF attests to the fact that ya don't need it. But, if ya like it, that's cool too.

Best, Pete. Hey Pete,
As you know,I agree about Chapin. Bill makes Incredible guitars. I have had 2, both just as good as each other. The resonance and lively-ness are insane. My second fave Strats, (or equal if you get a great one) are the good old Fender CSs. My Chapin equals or exceeds any Strat I have played.
VERY very good!

Since I'm the schlep that absconded with the Tyler Landau :) I would add the Tyler sounds good, really good, sweetly excellent even the harder I play it. It seems to want to really be dug into, and responds accordingly and every pickup selection has juicey warmth. My Suhr Std is my crack guitar.....one hit and I keep coming back. Played soft, pick, fingers, dug into, it just keeps on responding and beckoning for more :D....

when did tele gee-tars enter the discussion.
leo got it right from the git-go (pun, he said).
in looking at that picture of the chapin i notice one HUGE error. it's got those cast saddles. everyone knows that leo intended gee-tars to function PERFECTLY w/ stamped metal saddles.
what's next, brass hardware and locking wang bars?

Every one I've ever played is a flippin masterpiece.

hmm...
checked out his website.
gravitated towards his solid body tele style. i always find it hard to form an opinion based on clips. i can never get any amp or guitar to sound like they do in clips. maybe has more to do w/ playing w/ stone or metal picks and 'incorrect' technique.
i'm certainly intrigued, tho'. the chapin's get props from a lot of players that i respect. just what i need, however. yet another gee-tar to contemplate purchasing. i have a phobia about buying guitars. rather, i hate to sell guitars.
at his point, the only guitar i'm contemplating is the mccarty rosewood neck. the chapin seems interesting in that w/ the HB in the neck position there seems a plethora of colours there w/o it being a convoluted process to find them.
never got the suhr. well made guitars, but just never MOVED me.

I'd rather never even try out a Suhr. I'm perfectly happy with my Am Deluxe 50th Anniv. Strat for all my Stratty needs.
Is the Suhr a better guitar? Abso-freakin'-lutely.
But at three times the price, I'm not enough of a Stratonut to even consider that upgrade.

Stop, you're both right!

I have had many of these guitar/coffee table combinations. They sound great, look great, and hold a mean cuppa coffee, if you can balance the cup just right on the carved top. ;)
