Hey, Mike,
I have the same look on my face when I play when I play any jazz chord. Darned if I don't have a signature model named after me, though. I figure the ego shows up when you get one of those.

Better than the normal blank 'duh' face I generally wear at all times I'm sure. LOL

My E7#9 face is noticably different than my jazz chord face. When I play jazz chords I get this sort of faraway look, as if I'm visualizing charts being channeled to me from another dimension. But when I play a 7#9 it's more of a sneer, and I make direct eye contact, as if to say "That's right! I play this chord because I f'in' ROCK!"

It's got to be John Mayer - he comes from the "home of the blues - Fairfield, CT" - according to TRY!

Actually TRY! is not a bad record at all and he does have a better sense of humour than Yngwie......

Best, Pete.

No worries, everyone knows that England is the home of the blues.
There's just something about that Thames river..

I like him too. He isn't the best blues player in the world. I guess it's an inside TGP joke.

Not only do we have to cope with the ongoing BaM inside jokes there are TGP inside jokes and new inevitable crossfade inside jokes going on as well nowadays

I'd almost rather be an outsider looking in and unawarely working on a sociology degree :D

I never cared much about the blues, maybe that's why I like Yngwie playing them!

You don't have to make up, I was just messing around! I'm not a big fan of Rusty though, I respect what he's capable of but his work does nothing for me :)

I heard tha Yngwie hated his name when he was younger - named after some Norse God or something. I always thought it was the real name of the Swedish Chef. I like his music. Don't know if I'd like him, but I like his music.

I've only heard Mayer's Try album - not exactly blues, but not a bad album. Helps to to have an AAA+ rythmn section too.

If you had been drinking the recycled urine of your comrads for centuries, you'd have the blues too.

Anyway, I saw Buddy Guy last Wednesday and I am now a complete convert.

I saw him in 1973 - I still remember those stinging solos back then. We were sitting in a bar in Toronto. A middle aged black guy form Detroit was sitting with us. After his second song, he stood and screamed "Now that man's got SOUL!!!"

If I could play like him, I wouldn't.

But his mastery of the instrument is inspiring.

So, that gave his comments more weight ?

So, that gave his comments more weight ?Yes, because white guys have no business discussing or playing the blues. :)

"White people's job is to give people the blues, not to get them." - George Carlin

"It's not enough to know what notes to play. You also need to know why they need to be played." - George Carlin

Should I assume that you're joking or partly joking ?

I know the Carlin comments are obviously jokes, but the first part, I'm not
sure about,despite, the smiley..

Only one of those artists has been on the Dave Chapelle show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7YSGh5mm3I&search=chapelle).

Relevant?

Perhaps. Who cares?

The whole mayer thing is just weird to me.

I saw mayer play the blues live and I was bored out of my mind....But on a technical level he was playing some really cool runs. But again, it did nothing for me.

It's Disney Blues...

On the other hand,

I've also seen BB king play literally 3 notes and blow my mind. I am not a very spirtual person, a bit of a realist actually, but this experience really says something about "soul" and what is real in terms of passion in music.

All it tells me is what some of your perceptions, biases, and limitations are.

Man,

Not my cup of tea, but you can't deny that he's got an ass kickin' way about it going on there. I just wish he'd allow for more space in his phrasing. Then again though he wouldn't be Yngwie!
