Todays topic:

Buying/building a new home.... who here has gone through buying and having a new home built?? I talked to a Choice Homes rep last Tuesday about a 2 story 2k sq ft house and I am VERY interested to the point where I'm probably going to do it. Anybody have some suggestions? Anybody built through Choice before?

Thanks guys!

I have considered a custom home a few times.

The big plus is the potential to have a place exactly the way you want it.

Now for the downside:
You'll need to be able to look at a set of plans and understand size and space relationships.

You'll need to choose every product, finish and material. This includes flooring. wall color and texture. door hardware. lighting controls, appliances, plumbing. For example Hot water: how many heaters and what size hot water heater? one upstairs one downstairs or both down stairs? recycling system? tankless system? dedicated mini heater for your spa tub? instant hot water tap at the sink?

Are the rooms the right size for the furniture you have or will purchase in the future

How is the house sited on the lot for views access or solar panel consideration?

Where and how large are the windows, do most of the windows face south into the bright/hot sun

Whole house audio/video plan pre-wired - home theater? location of flat panel screen, speekers, subwoofer...seating
Room adjaceny (is the garage close to kitchen so that bringing food items iin s easy?)

My best friend is a famous architect and custom home buildier. When we talked about a custom home for me the show stopper was time. 6 months for design, city review and permits plus 9 to 10 months for construction and 1 or 2 months cushion.
