So its a beautiful spring day and my wife and I decide to walk to town along the Lake Washington shore from our new home in Kirkland, WA for lunch. We head over the Coyote Creek, a Southwest pizza and pasta place. Tuesdays they offer all the pizza you can eat for $6.95, which includes a Ceaser salid and bread stick. The waitress comes along every 5 to 10 minutes with different types of pizza and you take as many slices as you can eat. Including drinks and tip we are out the door for about $23!

As I sat there listening to some cool classic rock on the restaurant's sound system I wondered how many missed opportunities there are across America today. Places that are not offering live acoustic music at lunch let alone dinner. Its probably not cost effective to do it on a weekday, but I've been to places that would be perfect for live music on a Saturday or Sunday around noon. You'll find mid-day entertainment in resorts like Catalina Island, Key West, Whistler-Blackcomb and my old home town, Laguna Beach but not often in a "normal" town.

Have you played a lunch gig in your home town?

Tuna salad sandwich and iced tea.

There's a Italian grill along the lake here in Celina called Bella's that offers acoustic music during lunchtime on Saturdays. I've flirted with the idea of asking them if I could audition.

When I used to live in Troy, there was a small bistro called the Leaf and Vine that offered acoustic and Jazz during dinner time on Saturday, sunday and Mondays. The ex and I used to frequent there about once a month.

Beef Mushroom soup, Popcorn, Black cherry vanilla diet coke.

No we haven't done anything like that, yet. But at the moment, we are discussing something along those lines. This weekend, we are playing one of those all day outdoor picnic things. You know the ones, the stage is a flatbed, and you have the constant whir of a generator behind the stage.

Bar-b-que chicken pizza.

I have never done a lunch gig (other then the annual Annapolis Crab Feast we played three years in a row). And never seen one... save one.

At Rams Head Tavern Savage Mill, on the weekends, they do have a jazz duo (sometimes trio) that comes and plays. All instrumental. Nice stuff.

Peace,
Aldwyn

I had prawn mayo on brown sarnies. I also had an as much as you can eat for £3.99 pizza and free drink refills ..my advice is don't go there ..I'll for about four days.

My friend plays Pizza Express in an acoustic duo - though not lunchtime. Pay is ok and you get a free pizza and drinks. It is a shame your right - the Beatles used to do loads of lunchtime gigs - pretty much how they started out.

My dad told me stories of Tommy Steele warming up the crowd for Luton Town - my local team. Either him or Morcambe and Wise (Big Luton fans as Eric was from my neighbouring village).

Yeah, there's a really nice upscale restaurant that offers jazz on Sunday brunch and afternoons: Hopbrook Tavern about 10 minutes from my home. Never been there, it's somewhat pricey and intimidating.

Best two places for acoustic music and funk/rock/jazz are Peaberry's on Wednesday nights, and Goomba's on Thursday through Saturday nights.

Anywhere from beginners to seasoned pros show up at these jams, so it's anybody's guess as to how an evening will be. Lots of repeat local talent, that's always a good draw.

I'll be at Goomba's listening tonight, see you there! BTW, a Goomba is italian slang for "friend." They have the best personal sized (10") pizza for under $9, that's about how expensive they get for anything you want on it. Large (16") pizza less than $14 for the priciest pizza. Good people without the attitude. Yeah, baby! :dude:
