Big Al -
Hendrix freak that you are, were you ever a member of the Hey Joe forum or did you attend the Blue Plaque unveiling for Jimi back in Sept 1997? I was there (along with a bunch of other Hey Joe Yanks) as a guest of Kathy Etchingham. Just curious if our paths have every crossed? During that visit to London we also took a trip to King's Lynn and visited Tony Brown (Hendrix author and archivist). Got to play through Jimi's Univibe and fondle one of his Marshall half-stacks. Also heard some of the fabled Black Gold tapes (the Seven Tapes in a Headband) that Jimi had given to Mitch Mitchell in July 70 during the Hawaii trip to Haleakala to film Rainbow Bridge. Mitch had contacted Alan Douglas about them in 1992, who at the time was convinced the tapes were dupes of stuff that was already in circulation. Tony contacted Mitch and offered to inventory the tapes, and knew in about 30 seconds this was all new material that no one had ever heard before. Steve Roby met with Tony before his death and provides an extensive analysis of the tapes in his Black Gold book, which I highly recommend if you don't already have it. Drop me an email if you wanna swap Jimi tales.......odbruce@erols.com
