Hi Everyone,

New here and thanks in advance for your help - I posted a similar question at the Gear Page and was referred here.

I have just purchased a 94 McCarty model (non 100)and understand that the pups are Dragon Bass with covers. Mine have a "McCarty Bass" and "McCarty Treble" sticker on them. They also have 4 conductor wiring on them, though the 1st year models don't have the push/pull pots.

I was wondering if the other 94 owners out there could tell me whether these features are consistent with their 1st year models.

Thanks, Paul

Wow Paul, I have to admit I'm kinda surprised nobody has had a response to this question yet. I'm starting to feel bad about referring you to post here now!

Seriously though, I am surprised that one of our resident '94 McCarty owners (there has to be at least ONE right?) hasn't chimed in yet. I know this isn't one of the more traffic-heavy areas, but still... Anyway, I checked my PRS Book and it doesn't get specific about the wiring on the pickups but it does say that the early '94 McCarty's had a pair of Dragon Bass pickups. It then says that by January of '95 they were labeled "McCarty Bass" and "McCarty Treble". Have you checked in the pickup cavities to see what month yours was built? I would assume it was towards the end of '94 if the pickups are labeled as McCartys.

As far as the wiring, I'm sure a call to PRS would get a response if nothing else. Or hopefully this "bump" to the thread will get a response from somebody who knows for sure!

Rolling snake eyes so far:)

My seller helped me understand that several of the 94's had similar features (McCarty stickers and similar plated covers (brass))

The PRS customer service rep couldn't remember and requested some pics which I'll post here as well - He mentioned that there wasn't any additional wiring for tapping, which is a bit confusing from what I've read of other 94 features.

Thanks for your help - Paul

Not sure if this will help, but I have #96/100.

Yes, covered Dragon bass in both positions. No coil tap. I have not looked at the conductor wiring but they are not splittable via the tone control even if there are four.

That being said, there seems to be a fair bit of variation in early McCartys. Mine has gold and birds. Unique for an early McCarty - especially for the 100's. Large logo, small logo, unsigned with serials before the signed ones, etc..

Thanks Bill - I appreciate it.

No tapping for sure, I'll get a photo up this weekend - interesting stuff.

While I don't know the answer to your question I do have a small suggestion for you if you want more people to view / answer your question...

...put this up into the "Guitars from Maryland" section. :o

I have an early '94 McCarty (not one of the 100 signed). Mine has the covered Dragon Bass pickups with no split on the tone knob.

I'm not sure about the number of wires on the pickups. I'll have to take a peek!
