I'm home sick. Trader Joe's steak burrito. Damn cold and coughing sucks.
So okay...topic. I know, it's 10PM Cali time when I'm writing this, but so what.
What's some of your favorite old school funk bands?
Probably my favorite, Tower of Power. But I also dig Sly and the Family Stone, Parliment, etc.
My favorite funky band, not technically a funk band, but the baddest groove on the planet, is Morris Day and the Time.
What do y'all like, or do you not like funk?

I skipped lunch today and went straight from 2nd breakfast to dinner.
I saw Tower of Power back in the early 70's at Swing Auditorium at the Orange Show Grounds in San Bernardino, CA when their song "You're Still A Young Man" was popular.

8 AM the next day here, so I'll do brekky. South Beach shake, two granola bars and coffee. I hope you feel better today, Mike. My wife is trying to get over it, too.
Sorry if I sound crabby. Ugly drive into work this morning.
I'm not really a funk type, but I do love a bit of it in my rock. I love Primus, but the last few years, they seem to have lost the sillyness that made them really appealing. Older Extreme was very cool. I just don't care much for Mr. Cherone other than his voice - his lyrical skills (*edit*). RHCP is over the top, but their lead vocalist is way too much of a space cadet.
As far as the other stuff, I'd listen to it if it were playing, but I wouldn't actively search for it.
Now, if you'd have said "old school PUNK" . . .

I had a grilled chicken salad.
Does it have to be a band? If not, my vote goes to The Godfather Of Soul. It doesn't get much funkier than Sex Machine

5 cheese lasagna.
Mike, I am with you on your bands... including The Time.
But I think from the late 70s and early 80s when Funk was king, my favorite has to be Parlament/Funkadelic/George Clinton.
Peace,
Aldwyn
