Saw that in today's paper and immediately wondered how long it would take to see a new Darkness thread appear on the new BAM!
Now let's get the ball rolling -
"They're great!"
"They suck!!"
"They play solos!"
"So what!"
"Nothing that hasn't been done better back in the 70's."
"What's with that dude's voice?" [comment I've seen coming from Rush fans, of all people!]

...and on and on...as the thread grows to 3+ pages!

For the record - The Darkness rocks!
Dude!
Carry on!

I really enjoyed them on the 'Brits' last night, great to see them playing live.
I think they're like a breath of fresh air as the music scene is pretty stale these days.
Good on 'em getting three Brit awards Dude!

I haven't commented on The Darkness threads in the past, as I haven't heard their music. That is, until Monday. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" came on the radio, and it was pretty rocking, until the chorus. When he went into that falsetto, I very nearly drove off the road I was laughing so hard.

I've posted about the Darkness before and how I don't like the premise. But then, as my wife likes to remind me, I "take it too seriously". Whatever.

So I was entirely surprised at her reaction to the "Thing Called Love" video.

Lemme back up. My wife was the typical 80's chick. Shredded jeans, high hair. Loved all that metal, from Def Lep and Winger to Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.

So, as I said, I was surprised when the video ended. She watched quietly, and when it was over, my wife, who also NEVER swears, looked right at me and said "F*** them. I don't like being made fun of. If they think it's all a big joke, then they can kiss my a**."

This from the woman who rags on me cause I won't let her listen to Satch in the car because I don't like it.

FWIW.

Probably what all the poodle skirt girls thought when they first heard Sha Na Na

I agree, I have Origin of symmetry and Absolution and they are great albums!

My opinion of The Darkness is the same now as it was the last time a thread about them appeared on BAM; I like the music, production, and songwriting. I don't like the singer.

FWI - If The Darkness is really a "joke" and they are "making fun" of 80's bands, then I can actually respect them for that. :)

When he went into that falsetto, I very nearly drove off the road I was laughing so hard.

Pretty much the same reaction I had. I was digging it til then...but that falsetto...makes me wonder what they were thinking :)

Cool guitar solos though!

I bought the CD and at first I didn't really care for them but after a couple of listens, I really dig them.

Our drummer has been into them for about 2 years now since he saw them live and has been on about them ever since.

Vocal wise I think he does a very camp Freddy Mercury and that's saying something.

I did enjoy them on the brits 'cos it was well over the top including the Custom shop Les Paul Custom (and people think PRSi look like christmas trees!)

Enjoyable, yes. Original and fresh, no.

Check out "Get Your Hands Off My Woman":dude:

Muse were good on the brits apart from the mime and extra backing track.

I think the guitar playing is great, but the singing could use some work!
