View Full Version : How tight on locking tuners?

I have an SAS whith the newer style locking tuners on it. It seems like after you tighten with your fingers, you should put a coin or something in there and tighten it some more. The E,A,and D strings seem to want it to tighten more and more (because the wound strings will compress). So how tight is too tight, or, has anyones overtightened these screws and stipped them?

Yep, use a coin to tighten them but don't overtighten them!

I agree, be very very careful when tightening. I would use fingers first, then use a coin for about a quarter of a turn.
Thes things on guitars break quite easily. I've just had to have part of an old Ibanez 'Floyd Rose' type trem replaced because my son had over tightened the allan bolt. I broke it trying to change strings and guess what, Ibanex don't make them anymore. So had my Guitar man make one up for me. Luckily only £15.
By the way, the Ibanez was my son's and guess who paid for it and the repair?
