Fried Egg, Bacon and Cheese Sandwich - yolk everywhere - a little piece of heaven.

Getting an MP3 player this week. My CDs have divorced me fom my vinyl for so long that I think that this extra step up the digital ladder may see them relegated for good (or even sold altogether). Does anyone here listen to vinyl as much as or more than their CDs?

Shared a nice ready cooked extra tasty chicken from Morrison's. (£3.39 or £6 or 2) with some fresh crusty bread and some really good chutney.
Nice cup o tea.

Well MP3 is a downward step from CD as its a compressed music format. SACD or DVD_A etc would be an uplift. There again I really listen my Hifi system any more also seem to be playing tracks thru iTunes on my computer & near field monitors or my iPod / Etymotics.

I did get a monster cable to plug the iPOD into the Hifi system and was shocked to hear just how flat is was compared to a hi-end CD player.

I did used to be quite into HiFi but the guitar playing has cleansed my soul of that mumbo jumbo

Cold cuts and some cheese... was at a small reception today in honor of an out of town/visiting inlaw.

I have over a hundred LPs on vinyl, and I only bring them out about once a year. I should maybe just sell them, as I have some fairly rare LPs, including some rare Beatles.

Peace,
Aldwyn

Just a couple of buttered scones with jam and a cup of tea.

I still have a lot of vinyl, which I play occasionally. As regarding the 'progress' that time has mad, I believe it has gone backwards. CDs are not as good as vinyl and the new mp3 players are not a patch on CDs. The only real benefit with the mp3 players is compactness. I have nearly my whole CD collection, comprising over 5500 songs on my iPod. OK for travel and background music, but not good enough for serious listening.

Made a HUGE mess in the kitchen by making a lovely mixed grill for brunch...the second large intake of saturated fat I've had in a week - see Wednesday's report!!!

I agree...we all seem to be going backwards...

However, when one actually times the occasions you sit to really LISTEN to the music, it is usually a lot less than when you just have it on as background music. So, I guess the more convenient it is, the more we'll accept the loss in dynamics and overall sound quality etc.
Maybe in another few years, the next version of MP3/DVD's etc will have us all downloading or copying our collections yet again.

LP's are lovely and WARM to listen to...earlier CD players seemed to just boost the dynamic range - they always sound harsher to my ears.
Haven't heard a new, upmarket cd player compared to an older one, or even an LP....anyone got comments???

I have a reasonably up-market CD player (Musical Fidelity Pre CD24) and it is much better than any digital device I have had the pleasure to listen to before I purchased it. On the negative, I bought myself a Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck with a nice arm and stylus, and it is not a fair comparison, the turntable is just brilliant. Much better soundspace and instrument placement. On the digital side, I think that a well engineered SACD or DVD-A is the closest that you get to vinyl. The SACD seems a bit like CD, there is a seperation of the instrument that makes it sound like the instrument was sort of cut and pasted into that spot, the DVD-A's I have listened to seemed to have better integration and placement of the instruments. (This would more likely be the engineer rather than the format, don't know!)

Hope that this helps.
