hey All,
I have a gt6 and a CU24, I love the gt6, but my cheaper guitars sound better through it.
anyone use one? what settings do you like?
any help would be great
jp
I have one that I play with from time to time. I've used it with a variety of guitars and it does work quite well with a McCarty. I tend to stick with the Marshall tones primarily. The trouble with the GT6 is that it is so dependent on the main amp and speakers, not to mention the Output select function - so many variables!

I have a GT-5 and I assume it is close to the GT-6 in terms of sound and tweak-ability. With that in mind, there is defninte tweaking needed especially moving between guitars/pickups (my CU24 and SC sound different through different Preamp settings and each need to be "voiced" depending on what I want them to sound like).
Just my $0.02

It goes with out say that the pe-sets need tweaking, but let me tell you my opinion of a few very important points to get the most out of your GT-6.
Since you're playing a few diferent guitars through the GT-6, you may want to start by playing around with the EQ with each guitar. If you hit the EQ button, you can then turn the dial to use differnt pre-set EQ's. I find the "cutting 1" works real good with humbuckers.
It is very important how you're listneing to the GT-6. Through headphones is usually very different then through an amp. The GT-6 is a pre amp. If you run it into the pre amp of a combo, it usually doesn't sound very good (to me atleast). But some amps (I know some Crates as example), have an insert jack that bypasses the combos pre amp. That way your are running the GT-6 straight into the combo power amp and then to the speaker. I think that is the way to get the best sound.
I would love to know if anyone runs their GT-6 straight into a rack, using a TUBE power amp and out to a cab? I would think it sounds amazing.

Been using the GT-6 with my Custom 24, McRosewood and Godin LGX-SA. I agree that there is tweaking to be done but wheather I am using it for effects with an amp (4 cable method) or for direct recording, this thing smokes.
I use it mostly in my home studio to my Mackie 1604Vlz to Samson 240 Servo power amp to Tannoy PBM 6.5.
My only complaint is having to bend over to tweak.
Peace

:D Yes that is a pain. Trouble is if you went the Line6 route the floor board alone costs almost as much as the GT6

For me, line 6 is just not an option until they come back with a better sounding mouse trap!
I used to have a POD ver 2.0, bought the GT-6 for an effects unit, then after playing and tweaking the models I found the GT-6 to be a better amp simulator! Sold the POD. Then got the Guitar Port Ver2, same sound quality as POD XP without the price tag. Great for when I travel, but IMO not better than the GT-6.
If there is a package out there with the convenience of the line6 stuff with the sound quality of the roland/Boss gear, I'm in...

Love my GT-6. Hate totin' amps and effects.:D
I've been using my GT-6 straight thru' to the PA almost exclusively now. Not only does it sound great (after a good deal of tweaking) but you get the benefit of the stereo effects.
I love it. I haven't switched on my amp in over 2 weeks now.

Yes, you have. But that was only because I was playing through it. :)

Hi Jo. Yeah, long time gone. I'm mostly on TGP these days. It just works for me. And I seem to have less time for just chewing the fat, as enjoyable as that's been in the past. No, I'm fine without the Boss, thanks for asking..... I've also been on a gear diet lately - sold most of my amps except my podxt and Hellhound, and a few guitars. Gettin' back to sparser roots. Or, just enjoying my full cookie jar while new stuff appears at an astounding rate. The sidelines is a great place for me after several years of GAS insanity. Watch, wait, pounce...........maybe......eventually.
later, sister.....

I have the prequel to both - a GP-100 rack mount and basically the same applies in terms of tweaking and EQ choices. No bending over here! I had tried the 4 cable method into 2 mono tube amps of different makes and found it to be a limiting arrangement. Unless you have 2 identical amps to run in stereo and plenty of time to program it's far better to use these things into a rack mount stereo amp either solid state or tubes. Electronic preamps are just that - made to connect into a stereo amp (for stereo effects) or straight into a board for bus mastering, etc. Sure you can go mono but it kind of defeats the purpose IMHO. Interesting takes on the POD comparisons, who knows what the next models may bring..
