Ham & turkey sammich and pretzels.
Talk of earthquakes on TGP got me thinking. What natural disasters have you been through? Living in Florida, aka Hurricane Alley, I had only actually been through 1 hurricane before last year. I notched another two last September!
A hurricane hit Jacksonville shortly after I was born. I don't remember that one.;) When I was 14, a tropical storm tore up Jacksonville, causing the delay of the first concert I attended. Later, when I was in college, a hurricane was headed straight for Jacksonville, but turned at the last minute. I had my CDs and guitars all packed up and ready to run for higher ground.
Jump to last summer:
Hurricane Charly was headed straight for Tampa. The city was closed for a day and a half as we watched the storm take a last minute turn and pound just to the south of us.
Enter Hurricane Frances. This one landed ON MY WEDDING DAY. They say it's good luck for it to rain on your wedding, so I think we're set for life. Fortunately no damage to the house, but driving from home to Clearwater and the hotel stay there sure was interesting.
Hurricane Ivan was headed for us, but took a turn. Finally, Hurricane Jeanne came through and ruined my weekend by ripping limbs off my trees, destroying my shed and fence.
Can't wait to see what excitement comes this year.

Just had home made Chilli Con Carne, apparently without red beans because I don't like them.
We are fairly lucky here and don't suffer the same weather conditions you do. Although I did try to drive through the hurricane we had in 1987 which killed 19 people and blew about 19 million trees down.
The village I lived in, only had two routes, for me to drive to my workplace. My normal route was blocked with trees, so decided to go the other one. Driving along with trees falling around me and the radio station telling people to stay at home convinced me, so I turned round and went back home.
Luckily out house suffere no damage. Only one piece of fencing panel was blown down.

A couple of burritos.
About 1/4 of my town was leveled by a tornado when I was 10. Including the obligitary trailer park.

Lebanon, Missouri, Nov, 9, 1995.
The day started off sunny and in the low 70's...until a front blew in about 4:30 in the afternoon....the temperature dropped 35 degreees in less than 30 minutes....horrendous thunderstorms followed which then spawned two tornados which ripped through the center of town...Tracker Marine, one of the large aluminum boat factories here, suffered over $7 million in damages.
That night it snowed four inches....
Most bizarre weather I have ever seen.

A hot dog with some Famous Dave's Devil's Spit Bar-B-que sauce.
I have survived many a hurricane both here inland, and at the beach... I remember one in North Myrtle Beach (Hurricane Bob back in... oh... 85 was it?) where I looked out my window... 3rd story window, mind you.. just in time to see a deck chair fly by at high speed.
I spent the rest of the night sleeping on the floor on the other side of my bed from the window.
After the storm was over, some old geezer went out into the water to play in the high waves, and never came back. The local police asked for volunteers to go looking for the guy's body. A whole boatload of us held hands and waded out into the water, waste high, trying to see if any of us hit his body.
I dont know if it was ever found... I certinly didnt find it.
But you know what is worse then being in a hurricane? Trying to get off the Outer Banks during an hurricane evacuation. :-( 6 hours to drive what should take you 1 hour. :-(
Also, while I was in LA (Thousand Oaks to be exact) a few years ago, there was a earthquake. Kinda neat. Much different then the earthquake I felt out here in the east. In the east it was a shake... back and forth. In LA it was like a wave... Up and down. I could almost see the pavement in front of me (i was walking in the hotel parking lot at the time) waving away from me like the tar was water. Made me a little motion sick!
Peace,

"North Carolina Pork BBQ", fries and a diet coke. I'm starting to really like pork BBQ.
I was in an earthquake in LA too - it was epicentered in Rancho Cucamonga. It was as Aldwyn described, like standing on a rubber raft in the ocean. Thoroughly terrifying to me.
I was in Atlanta, about 3 miles away when a tornado hit near (on) the Governor's mansion (Jimmy Carter was governor but was out of town if I recall). I've been in the area of other tornados too but have never seen a funnel cloud. But the sky truly turns green.
Hurricane Agnes was a big deal when it hit here in '71 or '72. It destroyed Wilkes Barre, PA.

Left over BBQ Ribs... hmmm hmmm hmmmm
The only one I've been in was when I was in Taiwan on a missions trip in 1997. We were staying at this local church and a typhoon came through. it was pretty scary stuff. The next day as we walked through the city, it looked like a trash dump. Couldn't see any pavement cause debris was EVERYWHERE.

Ham and Turkey sandwitches.
I've lived through a few hurricanes - both on solid ground and in Aircraft Carriers; a couple of tornadoes that were within about two blocks of my house; a few earthquakes; floods; ice storms and a forest fire or two. Thankfully, no more than a few hundred dollars worth of damage in any of them.
Earthquakes aren't that scary to me anymore. As a matter of fact, for a while I could tell within about a tenth of a point what the severity of the quake was. I think I'd rather live with the threat of quakes than the threat of hurricanes or tornadoes.
I haven't had to deal with volcanoes. Don't think I want to.

I haven't had to deal with volcanoes. Don't think I want to. No kidding! We took an aerial tour of the Big Island when we were honeymooning in Hawaii. There's one part of the island you can live for real cheap. It's directly inline with the flow of the active volcano. They're just waiting for it to erupt. There's no home owners insurance in the area.
Hawaiian volcanoes don't erupt violently, but you could still watch your home get slowly swallowed by lava.:(

grouper quesadilla (sp). sounds awful, tasted wonderful.
san francisco quake, l.a. quake, florida hurricanes.
I'd suffer through all those for eternity before I tried taking on Jamie's suffering with his disasters.

I had chicken sarnies again.
Yer, dunno - been to a few places - no real disasters. Wind and hail damage is about the worst - we're lucky over here - despite the fact that we always moan about the weather. Up north a bit, they have had flooding and we're bathed in sunshine at the moment - quite localised weather for us in comparison to other places. So probably hail (nearly) the size of golfballs that smashed my greenhouse and would have knocked you out if you were out and about. We had a greenfly 'epedemic' one year :D oh, and mad cow. Hardly disasters.

Roasted chicken with a juicy orange.
Got my butt kicked in the Northridge Earthquake a decade or so ago. I was 2 miles from the epicenter and wondered if we would live through it. Not fun.

I got to see the damage less than a month later, driving around the valley. Yipes! Pancake flat parking garages and apartment complexes! I want nothing to do with earthquakes.
