Went to the Indian joint around the corner with my boss, who recently returned from a two week trip in India. Curried lamb, chole and spinach. Yum. But I've never been to India. In fact, I've hardly been anywhere outside the U.S. besides the Caribbean.

So today's question is, where is the most exotic place you've ever traveled? Any bizarre stories?

Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich with a Biggie Fry...horrible for me I know....akin to sticking a Vienna sausage in your aorta...but it did hit the spot.
Exotic? I'm not sure what actually qualifies....but I used to live in Los Angeles...does that count? :D

A real meal for the first time in 4 days. Roast chicken, fried potatoes and greens. Gorgeous. Needless to say, I didn't cook it.

Exotic place ........... Brackley is not exactly exotic, but is nice.

Probably best place I visited was the mountains in Sardinia, years ago, when I was in the RAF. We took a long weekend off and went walking the remote mountains, intending to climb a local peak. Unfortunately, the weather turned really bad and we had to get out of the mountains really fast. Some of us were close to hyperthermia. It was great though, rugged terrain and hardly any other humans in sight, well except for some chaps with extremely long shotguns. We just waved to them and carried on.

On the way back, we noticed a sign in Italian, German and English. It said beware, you are entering bandit country

BBQ pork sandwich up in Clarks Summit, PA - about an 1 1/4 hour drive from "here". I had the same thing last week - as you surely all remember from my post - and liked it so much I had another today at a different place. Not bad but these sandwiches need to be drowned in Tabasco and I just eat them with a fork because they're so messy. I am fastidious.

The most exotic place I've been is Venice, I suppose. Except for Berlin, it's the furthest east I've been. But it's the Moorish architecture and the lack of cars and the total otherness of the city that qualifies it as most exotic for me.

turkey, avocado, & sprouts on multi-grain bread, made by my friend April @ Dover Soul, a little coffee house next door to my apt and just up the street from work.

Exotic? I haven't been much of anywhere that would qualify, although I can think of two places that were, um, unusually interesting:

1. The middle of the atlantic gulf stream, in a 39 ft. sailboat, in a tropical storm. (60+ knot winds for the better part of 36 hours)

2. Quebec City during winter carnival.

Ham and cheese sarnie, geobar a banana, an apple and some nuts.

Work has sent me too some pretty odd places - Khazakstan, Equatorial Guinnea, Iceland....

However, I would have to say last years hols was the best, tour around the Mayan sites in Mexico, Guatamala and Honduros. Tikal being the most "exotic".

Doing the Inca Trail and Nazcan Lines this year.

Some leftover pork sausage and a bratwurst.

Only time I've been out of the US was to go to Montego Bay, Jamaica to get married. Not terribly exotic, but still a very nice trip. We stayed on the resort most of the time, save a trip to one of the local markets. We were harrased by a band of 12 year olds when we were walking back to meet our driver. They tried to get us to buy some braclets from them(as did about 30 other merchants), and began following and verbally abusing us when we refused walked on. Thankfully, our driver(a rather imposing man) showed up and shooed them before the ring-leader made use of the large knife he had stuck in the waist of his pants.

Carl's Junior. Sign me up for the same Aorta problem as Tim.

Well, only time out of the country was a business trip to England. London was great, we worked so much though, I only got to have one day of sight seeing.

Cajun spiced pork cutlets, jacket potatoes, spinach and apple salad made by me ..beeeaaauutiful:)

I've been very fortunate to have been to a fair few places. China,Bali,Barbados,Malaysia, Penang, former Yugoslavia,Brazil,Venezuela,Cuba, Dominican, Maldives,Isle of Wight;) and others. Would like to go to India. Going to Greece in a few weeks.

I nearly died in Kenya when Marlin fishing - the boat hit a reef and water was pouring in through the hull. The family we went out with on the boat shared the same surname as me. Next year we went away and we met them in the airport - they were going somewhere else that time - wierd coincidence.

Leftover Spaghetti.

Exotic, eh? I'm in the Navy fer cryin' out loud. I only go where the Navy deposits me on the beach. Usually in the armpit of whatever country we go to.

Seriously, I have seen the islands of St. Maarten and St. Thomas; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Cannes, France; Rome, Italy; Rhodes, Greece; Jerusalem, Israel; Lima, Peru; Valpariso, Chile; Rio, Brazil and a few other places. I have many stories about each of the places I've seen. I won't bore you with the details here.

Lima, Peru was interesting. I could retire from the Military and live like a king on my retirement alone. They also have one of the strangest things I ever saw overseas - a Starbucks with valet parking!

I had burgers off the grill and fried chicken with tater tots.

Have I had any exotics? Yes, a few of them. I forgot their names though...LOL All I remember is they were HOT HOT HOT! :D

Pizza burger and Mozerella sticks (I'm taking the Aorta highway to blockage the same as Tim and Mike) washed down with a A&W Rootbeer.

The only exotic place I have ever been was the backwoods of Kentucky. Why do I call that exotic? Have you seen the "wild life" down there?

SOS for lunch - ham on multigrain with veggies, chips, salsa, Diet Coke.

-- Malta, touring unaccompanied by any kind of local guide in a rental jeep. The prehistoric Borg-in-Nadur ruins were very impressive.
-- St. Kitts was not too developed when I went there 15 or so years back, so it wasn't overrun by tourists.
-- Puerto Vallarta was pretty cool, it gets as exotic as you can afford!
-- Barcelona - the Sagrada Familia cathedral designed by Gaudi is simply stunning in its wierdness.

Blackrock Chili.

A tie for the most exotic place: Bahrain Saudi Arabia and Tangiers Morocco. One of the wealthiest countries in the world and one of the poorest.

Tacos and water...

I've been to Hawaii quite a few times, that's pretty exotic I guess.

Or maybe one of our fishing trips to the Bahamas, we leave out of Miami Beach or Ft. Lauderdale, head across the Gulf Stream towards Bimini. 50 miles across the open ocean looking for a rock with gas. Some of those little islands are might "exotic", but they all have cold Kalik (beer) and conch salad to die for...

I can't remember what I had for lunch. Monday is too far away. Certainly wasn't good enough to be memorable. And didn't anybody have lunch on Tuesday?

Most exotic place would be the Nīmes area , in the South of France. Pretty tropical, with unbelievable sights. For instance the Roman Coliseum, and various Roman ruins. When I was there, I had dinner in Aigues Mortes, which is an old fortified city (a wall goes all the way around the city). Cool little square in the middle with a bunch of cool restaurants, serving among other specialties, Taureau (bull steak).

Yeah, I've been to some of those little towns perched on top of these cliffs - St. Paul du Vance - in southern France. They are midieval and exotic alright.
