View Full Version : Crazy idea for a vocal booth . . .

We were touring Wine Country in Napa, California a couple of weeks ago. We were in one of the wineries, and they had this huge 750 gallon wine barrel. It was oval shaped - about 8 feet high, by about 4 1/2 feet wide and 6 feet deep.

I thought that it would make a fantastic vocal booth if I put a door with a small window on the front, permanently mounted a mic boom to the overhead inside the barrel, and drilled small holes in the back to install jacks for the mic and headphones. I wouldn't have to do much else to it, because it seems like it would be fairly soundproof on the inside. And it would smell really cool . . .

Any feedback, or am I just plain nuts?

Oh, obviously I would drain any remaining wine out of it!

You would probably like to buy it full and slowly over a period of time drain it.

Does sound like a cool idea though.

Sounds like a good idea to me, worth a try anyways!

Built in reverb - check
Classic claustrophobic vocal booth properties - check
Bonus of masking pleasant odor to fight BO - check

I think it sounds like a great idea. I volunteer to help with the draining process
as well as the studio install!
