I just bought a GRAMMA - Gig And Recording Amp & Monitor Modulation Attenuator.

Basically, it is a low platform for your combo amp or speakers that is made by Auralex. It insulates your sound from the floor. Playing a Custom 22 Soapbar through my Carr Rambler I was immediately struck with low much tighter the bottom end became. Notes took on an additional clarity, chords were better articulated and the whole tone was just more focused. Even my wife noticed the difference.

Under $40 from Sam Ash Music. Way cool :dude:

I use one to float my ZBEST cab for gigging. I've had mine for the past yeard and a half, and I LOVE it! It does make a significant difference with the tone. vettelover is right on as it does make the tone more focused and articulate.

Agreed, the GRAMMA is awesome. I had one, sold it, then bought another. It's great with my combo but I even use it at home with my 2x12 cab.

Tell me more about these things, what do they do better than a set of casters on a cabinet or my 4-space rack under my 1x12 can do, and how does it do it?

Similar to the Gramma I picked up some MoPads for my monitors and really like what they did to the sound.

I think they have them at GC, I'll do some A/B testing when I get the chance. My biggest problem is that I'll either use an amp stand sometimes, or my 2x12 which has permanent casters, or put my cab on top of my rack, so I probably wouldn't get the chance to use it.

Baba,

Place I notice the biggest improvement with the GRAMMA in trouble spots; poorly built stages, concrete pads, rooms with too much echo, etc. The GRAMMA helps restore the frequencies that would normally be lost and also focuses the sound better. The improvement is also more noticeable at higher "gig" volumes.

I agree. The GRAMMA is great! My equipment is in a basement on top of cement slab, with a thin layer of Pergo flooring in between. Without the GRAMMA, it seems a bit spikey. The GRAMMA diffuses that, and makes the tone sound and feel more natural.

What's the theory behind this contraption?

Has any one used a smiliar device that a combo amp sits on?

It has a horn on the bottom and the whole thing is angled up at about 30degrees. Saw them in Tonequest.

I've seen them before and I wondered what they heck they were! I'm also wondering if it would be better to have the amp 'raised' up or sitting on this thing.

My Rambler sounds better sitting on the GRAMMA than raised up on a stand.

I may look into those myself for my new room who's floor is a concrete slab with tile on top and a thin carpet on top of that. Anyone know if caster wheeled amps should use this? Seems as though my 5150 combo would be unstable on top of one of those.

Anyone know if caster wheeled amps should use this? For best results the casters should be removed so the cabinet is making direct contact with the GRAMMA surface.

Just picked one up for my Mesa F-50 and love the way it sounds much fuller and doesn't lose the bass it did previously where we practice. Definitely worth the price. :)

wonder if this would do something similar and also let you angle the amp up?
ck it out, I was interested in this one, but didn't jump on it yet...

wait so you just put this under your amp? Like under my hot rod deville?

That's it. Works wonders.
Does it have it's own internal power supply, or does it use one od them wallwarts?
Are they available in quilt?

Nothing can be that simple, can it? ;)

I want one, but I'm trying to find a Pre-CBS model.

That's funny - I'm looking for one without a volute.
