Hey Phil,

Speaking about Bans. I tried to register with my Hotmail address and it said my email was BANNED? I registered with my normal one and it went fine. Do you still not accept people with Hotmail Emails? How about saying that in the registration screen?

i got an email to my hotmail account from Phil. (see below) I'd signed up using my hotmail account previosly - this email explains the reason...

Hello Everybody,

I apologize for the broad distribution, but as a registered member of BirdsandMoons, I did want to let you know the location of our new home.

We recently lost our database, so...we built a new place from thr ground up. The new, improved, and faster forums will require you to re-register as we are starting from scratch.

I would like to remind everybody that BAM did start a "No free email registration" policy the first of the year. This was done for two reasons:

1. There were some members trying to be deceptive and present themselves as others.

2. The free email services would generally dismiss the confirmation email as SPAM leaving us to manually enter user data.

I want to remind everybody, that altough this might seem like an inconvenience, it is for your protection and Birds and Moons will never distribute your private information, such as email addresses. We are independantly owned and volunteer run.

So, The homepage for BAM is still:

http://www.birdsandmoons.com

And the forums can be accessed directly at:

http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/forum

Thanks for you patientce in our down time!

-Phil

Hey Phil,

Speaking about Bans. I tried to register with my Hotmail address and it said my email was BANNED? I registered with my normal one and it went fine. Do you still not accept people with Hotmail Emails? How about saying that in the registration screen?Hello,

Yes,

At the 1st of the year BAM made a policy change regarding registration via free email services. The reasoning of this is two fold.

1. (The most important) Free email services such as Hotmail and Yahoo do not let the vBulletin registration confirmation email be delivered to the registrant due to email filtering. Even members of AOL can experience this too. This causes the person who is registering to be caught in a state of limbo. I would then have to check a bucket of unconfirmed registrants on a regular basis and determine whether or not they did not receive the mail, or just had not replied yet. If I decided they never got the email I would manually activate them and send them a followup email.

2. When BAM initially hit the web back in November, there was a case of identity theft (somebody took a known alias, and registered it under false pretense). To reduce the risk of this happening again, we decided that removing the ability to registar without accountablity would only make it easier for this to not happen again.

I can understand the hesitancy of some people releasing a non-free based email. But, it is imperative to understand that Birds and Moons, will never release email information to anybody, even to it's own membership, and the option to have your email concealed to the public is an option through the "UserCP".

Birds and Moons is independantly owned and volunteer run with no affiliation to any company or dealer. We also have a no soliciation policy for manufacturers and dealers.

I do realize that it does not state this email policy formally at registration. It did mention it on the old site, but I have not found correct PHP sheet to add it yet in this version of vBulletin. And for that, I apologize for any inconvenience and I do want you to know it is on my "To Do" list.

As Chiba pointed out, it does state the policy on BAM's homepage, and I notified everybody who previously registered at BAM yesterday via an email that I sent out (Thanks Big Al for importing it). If somebody has absolutley no other way to register, they can always email me for this at admin@birdsandmoons.com or admin@forums.birdsandmoons.com and I will work with them.

Regards,

Phil

I thought that registration required a crazy-topped Thorn. See, even I get threads crossed!

And I'd appreciate it if you used my full nickname when you refer to me - there are more and more Dans registering on this Forum. How the heck am I supposed to know which threads I'm supposed to stay away from?

Why not just ban all Dans? You guys are obviously a bunch of trouble-makers. In fact, in my experience, guitar players in general are rarely up to any good. :D

But you can be "BaM's DB Dan" .... or Deebie for short! Hey, then you could be called the "Deebie Brothers". :D

Damn these Damned Banned Dans... grumble, grumble, grumbleI beg to differ! I'm pretty sure I was the first to copyright any phrase on this thread. And since the words "Damned" and "Dan" are clearly seperated by Banned, and moreover given context by the BaM modifier, there certainly isn't any infrigement on your so-called, if non-legitimately licensed, copyright.

I rest my case... and I rest my guitar in said case! :D

And whatever you do, please do NOT ban me (again)...
