Cubase LE came with our Presonus Firepod. In this version of Cubase LE, there are a limited number of times you can export the project as a mp3, wav or other formatted file.
Should I upgrade to a different version of Cubase, or Nuendo, or another sequencer, OR should I buy some other type of mastering and wav exporting program --or plugin?
I would love suggestions and input.

Get Cubase SX and you have everything you need short of a full blown wave editor.
I have used, tried most everything out there for PC DAW's and Cubase SX is the schiznit IMHO.
I had the same thing with Sonar, Don. You could export mp3's but after a certain number of exports, the license expired. It cost me about $25 for a full version of the mp3 plugin and now I'm golden.
If Cubase does everything else that you want it to, maybe you just want to look into buying a license for the mp3 exporter.

P.S. Rant, rave and rail...what a ripoff - I've spent $1,000 over the years on Cakewalk/Sonar and its upgrades and they've got to nick me for an extra $25 to export mp3's. Extortion.

I prefer Nuendo for mixing/mastering. But for wav editing I still use good old Cool Edit Pro (now Adobe Audition). I have tried Sonar 4, but familiarity breeds contempt. If I wasnt so high on Nuendo, maybe Id like Sonar.
For the record, Cubase is just a midget version of Nuendo.
Oh and never pay for software!

My son just got a "demo" version of Nuendo that he is trying....hmmm, I think that it will shut down ..or require a code key at some point in time.

This type of sentiment amounts to outright thievery!
Do you steal other things too?!

I would love suggestions and input. Not sure here, but you may be paying to license the MP3 converter. If I were you, and I did not wish to pay for software, I would look for a freeware MP3 encoder and decoder, you probably want one that is just a DLL that is recognosed by all your programs.
You could look for one in www.tucows.com (http://www.tucows.com/), www.zdnet.com (http://www.zdnet.com/) or http://www.mp3-converter.com/mp3_converter_freeware.htm etc or just plain google. Once you have installed on, it should become one of the options in your drop down list of extraction methods. Note that some contain adware, these should be avoided.
But hey, I could be wrong. Best of luck, and I completely agree that taking software that should be paid for is not very pleasant. Somebody has worked really hard to write that software, spending many, many hours coding and testing and putting their heart into it for sometimes very little reward.

Ok, Sonar fanatic here.
jas, you say you've upgraded with Cakewalk a bit. Do you still have your disk for Cakewalk Pro V9? If you do, then you can use then included encoder for free. When you run the install for the encoder, it will ask if you have a V9 disk. Use your disk, then voila, MP3 exporter is enabled and unlimited. Also, check out cwenc. It's a plug-in that replaces the Sonar exporter.
