Can I convert the sound track from an avi?

I have 3 minute 38mb avi file I recorded on my Digital Camera of the singer we had at rehersal yesterday and wondering if there was anyway to convert the sound track from it into an Mp3.

I have no way of hosting the avi file for your veiwing pleasure unless someone can tell me how to, or where to do that.

extract the audio to a wav file then encode it to mp3 with your favourite encoder.
