Any one got an opinion (ha!) on a decent, reasonably priced delay unit? I guess reasonable is subjective. But I'm looking in that $150 or less range. Looking for suggestions and opinions. I see MF's has the Arion Delay for $19. That kind of scares me. Almost TOO low. I've got a Boss GT5, but have never been happy with the DD in that. The short delay works well, but won't work if you have the Harmonizer on. And that is what I use for Chorus effects. Suggestions?

Ken,

I usually hate digital delays...especially Boss delays, waaaaaaayyyy too tinny sounding. However, on a recommendation from a respected musician, I picked up a Digitech Digidelay used for about $70. (Yes, it is digital) It has a "Tape Echo" modeling feature that I just love. That particular setting is all I use and it really does the trick for me. It has that darker decay sound to it that most digital delays can't capture. One note of caution, they are reportedly not the sturdiest pedals...but mine is on a very secure pedal board. I never use the pedal to turn it on or off, I just keep it on all the time and use my Road King footswitch to engage or disengage it. Hopefully, that will make it problem free...so far, so good.

Erik,

Thanks, I'll keep that one in mind. Ever heard the DanElecto Reel Echo? Supposedly it emulates a tape echo, too.

Ken, I've never played or heard one...but I've heard decent things about it.

Digitech's "X" series Delay is an awesome pedal that I own and love; only $90 too.

Sounds great; and has tap tempo. Gotta love it.

Hey guys. Thanks for the suggestions. Really appreciated. So much, that I went out and bought ............... a ........................ Carl Martin DeLayla. :D Please take this in the spirit it's offered. I really do appreciate the feedback and suggestions. But I was at the local M&P talking with my salesguy about my band's breakup. Asked him about delay units. He suggested the T-Rex (no, at $300US). But, there sat this slightly used DeLayla. $175US. For me, $125US. Ha, couldn't refuse that one. Figure if I just absolutely hate it, I can ebay it for that. So, thats what I got. Now, if I could just find a manual for it. ;) And really, I was thinking Digitech until I saw this one.

Tulk, that's cool. I've never heard that delay unit...give us the skinny once you fire it up and put it through the paces.

I just bought a Boss DD6...finally! A Boss Delay pedal with tap tempo built in.
No external footswitches needed! Whew! Works fine for me...I have a Digitech Digidelay, and it works well, except for one thing. The tap function, if I step on it the wrong way (and who KNOWS what way that is) the tempo speeds up to slapback. Anybody else have this problem?

He suggested the T-Rex (no, at $300US). That was a really good price albeit $300. They are usually $400 and backordered at most places due to the slow production of them.

Congrats on the Carl Martin! :dude:

Wanted to say, that Carl Martin has turned out to be one nice delay. And the tap feature is pretty cool. It's not a tempo tap. It adds a second head to the tape effect. It's like 2 delays in one Layla. :D . Now, if could just find a nice chorus. One that sounds as silky and chimey as the harmonizer in my GT5. Then it'd be back to 3 pedals. Uh, for a while. ;)

Id look around. I saw a used Deluxe Memory Man for 150 so there must be something you can find if you just look.

Okay then. Guess that's manual enough. :D Then again, this is a rather simple set up on the unit. And it's a great sounding delay. Thanks.
