View Full Version : Help me choose our opening track
After a long weekend of tracking with my band, I've got two new songs semi-mixed. It's been decided that one or the other will be the opening track on our next EP, but the jury is still out on which. I'd really like the impressions of the kind folks here on BaM as to which song grabs you and sets a better tone for short but energetic 4 or 5 song EP.
There is probably a bit more work required on both.. some pitch here.. some tones there..
The songs are the first two links on the page below:

Thanks!
I should add that both songs are sort of heavy sounding. I hope this doesn't put off some of our more moderate listeners here... :)

Adam
of the two, I would say that Stop pulling down my grey hairs is more of a second or third track, so I would put Jerusha first. Start slowly and build to a crescendo.
Nothing wrong with the tracks for me, and I am really moderate ;)

I like it straight in my face so I know what I'm getting. Stop pulling my gray hairs down first. Pull the vocals back in the mix and let that rhythm pump out.
But that's just me. John has a point also, but I think it's important to be grabbed right from the start. Sounding very cool as usual though.:dude:
Thanks fellas - unfortunately your opinions cancel each other out!
Rip - I'll take your advice on pulling the vocals back a bit. Could the same effect be had by bringing up the rhythm guitars some?

There's no doubt about it ...
1, Stop Pulling My Grey Hairs Down
2, Jerusha
You've got to open with a stomper and grab folks attention, just like a gig !!
Serious riffage bro !! :dude: :dude: :dude: :dude:

I don't want to tell you how to suck eggs but be careful of turning things up 'cos things could get out of hand. Much better to knock things back abit to see how they sit. Then if you need to, bring some things foward.
I like guitars up in a mix. But I would wouldn't I:D :dude:

That's good advice.. I suppose I did know that, but I listen to how the vocals and drums match up and like those levels, so I was wondering if the guitars were just too low.
I'll take the vocals down first and see if it sounds better. :D

Grey Hairs first, I like the more uptempo grab for a first track, personally.
I do believe the grey hairs have it. :D Thanks for the input, folks - I do appreciate the time taken to help me out here.

Thanks Frankie - I always hesitate to post cuts on here because there are so many great musicians on this forum, but then I think "well I might as well get input from the best players I know."
You know, lameness, but no fear. That's me. :D
