Unless you really need the drum machine and recorder I would skip it and get teh 3 instead...all the gnx products use the same exact processor for its modeling. Even my cheap little desktop unit was able to use pretty much all the same patches as the gnx4. Sound wise there was absolutely no difference between the 2 models. Also, the display sucks...you can only use 8 characters to describe your patches, where with the rest, (POD, GT6, etc..) you actually have a decent size display to put a description in. Other than that it is a great unit I thought. I sold mine more to make room for the rest of my junk...LOL There is a decent sound community over on the digitech site and you can download all teh available patches in 1 zipped file instead of 1 at a time...and they have some samplpes tehre too.

Hey Doc, I had some down time today so I researched the differences between the GNX3 & GNX 4.

Looks like there was an "old GNX3" without the recorder and drums that can still be bought ($399). Doesn't look like it comes with software & I don't think if it has a USB out?:

The current GNX3 has 8 track & drums ($399)

Current GNX4 is only $100 more than the current GNX3. I think the main difference is the GNX4 has a USB out and comes with the software bundle for recording.

Had a GNX3 and thought it mostly great, had a great, pure passthrough signal and generally an awesome practise tool but was difficult to work with and I was constantly having to refere to the manual for simple stuff. Couldn't use it live as I just didn't trust it(or me for that matter) to stay in stomp box mode .. it was too easy to accidently change modes but thats probably just me. The WAH sound was rather poor I thought. I'm using the PoDxt now which is MUCH simpler to use and is more usefull stright out of the box(but you need a computer to do the recording stuff which the GNX3/4 just does onboard). The review I saw of the GNX4 said somthing like 'everything that was great about the GNX3 with even more cool stuff but still not very user friendly'. If ya don't mind getting stuck in to the manual(a lot) and creating you own 'useful' patches then go for it.
